Clancy Eccles, one of the most loved and revered personalities in Jamaican music sadly passed away on June 30th at a hospital in Spanish Town, just

outside Kingston, after suffering a stroke that had left him in a coma for 5 days.

Born in Dean Pen in St Mary

I feel a bit like the Obituary editor at the local newspaper today. Here are some more notable and loved reggae artists who have also passed on earlier this year. Thankfully Lee Scratch Perry is still alive and well in Switzerland. The links will take you to the original stories posted on the trojan records website.

The world of music was dealt another dreadful blow this weekend when Ska legend, Laurel Aitken passed away after suffering a massive heart attack. He had been admitted to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester on Saturday 16th July, but sadly passed away the following morning. Laurel was a true pioneer of Jamaican music, who not only played a key role in the early development of the island

Laurel was born in Cuba in 1927 and it was on the largest of the Caribbean islands that he spent the first eleven years of his life. By the time he and his family moved to Kingston in 1938, music already played a large part of his life, with American R&B and Jazz particularly inspirational to the teenager

Updates coming this week

On July 21, 2005, in site, by E

Some new Lee Perry tracks will be added to the stream this week, as well as some Tubby. I’ll be cycling out some of the older tracks and trying to freshen up the playlist a bit.
In other news, I have some new Sandollars stuff coming in as well as a few other select Rhygin Records 7 inches. We’ll be having a 7 inch giveaway in a month or two as well.

For some non Lee Scratch perry news check out my blog at www.strangerthanfiction.org

Everything should be up and running

Let me know what kind of results you have with the peercast thing. I can hear it fine but I’m on 100Mbit right next to the server so I’d like to know if people encounter problems with it. Make sure you download Peercast and not the peercast winamp plug in (which is for broadcasting)
