The world of music was dealt another dreadful blow this weekend when Ska legend, Laurel Aitken passed away after suffering a massive heart attack. He had been admitted to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester on Saturday 16th July, but sadly passed away the following morning. Laurel was a true pioneer of Jamaican music, who not only played a key role in the early development of the island Laurel was born in Cuba in 1927 and it was on the largest of the Caribbean islands that he spent the first eleven years of his life. By the time he and his family moved to Kingston in 1938, music already played a large part of his life, with American R&B and Jazz particularly inspirational to the teenager |
